The formation The Clayton Brothers is a head child of saxophonist Jeff Clayton. Over thirty years ago, he and his brother, bassist John Clayton, promised each other to always support each other’s projects. Jeff loves the personal interaction and John the bigband fullhouse. So they founded the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and the Clayton Brothers Quintet. First among others with drummer Jeff Hamilton, the latter with the two brothers and John’s son Gerald Clayton or as today Sullivan Fortner on the piano, Terell Stafford on the trumpet and Obed Calvaire on drums. Both brothers are Grammy-nominated multiple times, with the quintet twice, in 2009 and 2010 for the albums ‘Brother To Brother’ and ‘The New Song And Dance’. Brother John could already take the Grammy home. Jeff has played with legends such as Patti LaBelle, Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, BB King, Madonna, Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder. John has served as artistic director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival jazz program, and has composed and arranged for Charles Aznavour, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Michael Bublé, Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston.
