Dawn Clement is a joyful and formidable voice in modern jazz, celebrated for her distinctive artistry as a pianist, vocalist, and composer. Blending lyricism, creativity, and versatility, she has earned acclaim throughout the jazz world. As DownBeat noted:

“The revelation is Dawn Clement’s piano, always ready with the lyricism or structure the moment needs.”

Throughout her career, Clement has performed with renowned artists including Jane Ira Bloom, Ron Miles, René Marie, Julian Priester, and Ingrid Jensen. She also appears on the GRAMMY-nominated debut album by säje.

Her recent album, Delight (May 2025, Origin Records), features legendary bassist Buster Williams and drummer Matt Wilson in a “legacy trio” recording captured at Maggie’s Farm Studios in Pennsylvania. The project is an intimate and soulful reflection on connection, heritage, and musical lineage.

Clement’s forthcoming release, Dear, Ms. Dearie (April 2026), pays tribute to the music of Blossom Dearie and features an extraordinary ensemble including John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, and Steve Kovalcheck.

An Associate Professor and Area Coordinator of Jazz and American Improvised Music at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Clement also serves as Artistic Director of the Centrum Jazz Workshop. Based in Denver, she remains a vital presence in both the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Northwest jazz communities.

About Dear, Ms. Dearie

About Dear, Ms. Dearie is a project shaped by time, listening, and deep affection for the music of Blossom Dearie. Inspired by Dearie’s understated brilliance—her swing, wit, and quiet authority at the piano—the recording honors the elegance of her songbook while allowing the music to resonate in a contemporary setting.

The ensemble brings together artists whose musicianship embodies the highest traditions of jazz:

  • John Clayton – bass
  • Jeff Hamilton – drums
  • Steve Kovalcheck – guitar

Produced by Matt Wilson, the project was arranged with great care and intention, crafted specifically for this remarkable group of musicians.

While much of Clement’s work is known for its original compositions and adventurous improvisation, Dear, Ms. Dearie turns toward the song itself—intimate, grounded, elegant, and quietly swinging. It is both a tribute and a conversation: with Blossom Dearie, with the jazz tradition, and with the artists who continue to carry that tradition forward.
